Carport SolarScapes makes an artistic structure

No one ever said SolarScapes had to be one-color

From 2012 to 2013, North Carolina went from being the #5 state for solar installations to #3, doubling the number of MW installed in the state in a year. The continued solar growth in North Carolina is due to state support of solar and progressive minded individuals such as the homeowners of a Charlotte, NC SolarScapes carport.

This Charlotte family was determined to integrate solar into their home and selected Accelerate Solar, a local, family owned, experienced solar designer and installer, to help them achieve their solar goals. Unfortunately, significant shading on both roof and grounds made it unrealistic for a conventional solar array. However, Accelerate saw the potential and unique opportunity for a solar carport over the driveway.

Accelerate selected the Lumos SolarScapes structure with LSX 250W clear backsheet modules. With its patented through-bolt mounting, the LSX are mounted with an easy-to-seal ¼-in gap between modules, which Accelerate sealed to create a weatherproof structure. In addition, the clear backsheet modules allow UV filtered ambient light through giving the carport an open, airy feeling.

What makes this SolarScape unique was the color choice. SolarScapes’ columns, girders and purlins can be powder coated, thus giving the homeowner and Accelerate complete color freedom. For this SolarScapes, the creative choice was white columns and dark green girders and purlins. The combination of colors resulted in an eye catching and architecturally enhancing solar structure for the home.
