Lumos is 100% Solar Powered

Since 2008, Lumos. has offset 100% of its electricity use. This means that Lumos commits to adding 19,000 kWh of solar power to the national power grid each year representing an offset of approximately 24,605 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions (primarily carbon dioxide). This is the environmental offset equivalent of planting approximately 3.3 acres of trees in a year or parking a car so it is not driven for almost 2.5 years or 29,807 miles. By supporting the generation of clean, renewable energy, we are helping grow the demand for new clean energy projects, taking responsibility for our environmental impact and leading the way towards a more sustainable energy future.

We’re committed to making a difference at Lumos. We strive for environmental leadership while providing quality products to our loyal customers. How we run our day-to-day operations, from manufacturing to distribution, is a good example of how we take the commitment to heart. Our goal at Lumos is to reduce the ecological impact of running our business while increasing the positive impact we have on people and communities.

Zero Waste

In natural systems, waste does not exist. All waste materials are recycled — in effect natural systems are "zero waste" systems. Is this possible in a world of manufactured products and global trade? We hope so. Zero waste, like zero accidents and zero emissions, is a long-term goal achievable through a systematic and incremental approach. Zero waste encourages continuous improvement, innovation and creativity. Setting a policy of zero waste for business operations means a long-term commitment to getting it right — ensuring all materials flowing through our business have a proper home at the end of the day and will be recycled back into nature or into the marketplace. Getting to zero will be a long haul, but the best adventures always are.
 

What We Are Doing

• We have adopted a zero waste policy and are striving daily toward reaching this milestone.
• We recycle all paper products, commingled containers, we compost, and we recycle hard-to-recycle materials.
• Our products are designed to be durable, long lasting and repairable — not disposable.
• The majority of our waste stream is comprised of transport packaging that ensures our products arrive undamaged and in shape for our customers. We reuse import boxes for shipping to our customers and always use recyclable packing materials for all consumer bound packaging.

The Renewable Revolution

The human race needs energy to survive. Everything from U.S. economic output to the comforting night-light in a toddler's bedroom depends on it. However, our dependence on fossil fuels has broad repercussions on our economy and our environment. Extracting and transporting fossil fuels, processing those materials into electricity and transmitting it to homes and businesses across the country impact our land, air, and water. It also impacts our country's economy and all citizens' health and safety. It's time that our twentieth-century energy resources — coal, gas, and nuclear power — are phased out. The United States has the technology, the resources, the ingenuity and the will to lead the world into a new era, where energy is generated cleanly, safely, dependably, and economically.
